Our bodies are created to work amazingly well.
There are reasons for illness. Sometimes an infective agent overcomes our defenses to invade our cells. The results can be immediate, transient or deadly, or they may become a chronic feeling of dragging on with fatigue, achy joints, brain fog, etc. Why are some more susceptible to these invaders than others? There’s obviously a difference in defense or immune system between people. As we look at the outward differences among people (age, weight, chronic illness), we may be missing the invisible factors that include nutrient deficiencies and toxicity, which are all too common in our society. Testing for and correcting such deficiencies and toxicities can make us all healthier.
The Science!
You have access to a huge amount of scientific information. Every day, scientists all over the world are working on their small areas of expertise, and chances are one of those areas fits your need. If you wake up with a question about your health, search for the symptoms, causes, and solutions in the medical literature, using PubMed or Google Scholar. Chances are you will discover a whole new world of information. No one else has the motivation or time to spend looking into your particular problem, and the articles are written by THE experts in your field of interest. You may even find the perfect doctor to help with your specific need.
So, I woke up one day with questions about this new coronavirus. What exactly is it? Where did it come from? It was clear that it was very contagious, and if we didn’t isolate ourselves, wear masks and social distance, we all would get it. But, why did the vast majority of people have no or mild symptoms, and others have severe symptoms, and some die horrible deaths?
I read studies about Vitamin C, zinc, hydroxychloroquine, and Remdesivir. I even searched for vaccines for the other, related coronaviruses, SARS and MERS. No vaccines, and lots of disastrous results in testing the possibilities. Hydroxychloroquine and zinc, if given at the right time and doses seem helpful, and I found instances of doctors using it successfully on their patients and themselves. After reading over 90 scientific studies about this SARS-Cov-2, one thing jumped out at me.
It was Vitamin D!
- It’s a nutrient that we all need to be healthy, and most of us are sadly deficient.
- Studies over many years showed that the hormone derived from D3 have thousands of important actions in the body, and that low levels are associated with many common diseases. Previously, I had thought it was only important for bone health. I had much to learn!
- More recent studies were showing that sufficient levels of D, 30 ng/ml or more, protected people from getting a severe case of Covid-19 and dying from it.
- All of the groups at risk for Covid-19 were also at risk for Vitamin D deficiency.
- The bottom line is that, if we all were tested, and our D levels were corrected, the death rate for Covid-19 would drop by 90% or more.
- The question is why aren’t all doctors doing this?
